Week 2: Critical Reflection

Hello, and welcome to week 2 of our blended learning programme (it’s week 3 of the programme overall). This week we hope to build on some of the ideas introduced in our previous session, and re-examine them in the context of our own reflective practice. As last session, there is a short video for you to watch (about 7 minutes), a forum discussion topic, and a ‘live’ discussion topic. This week we also have a short task (watching a video clip of a learner) to support the discussion topic.

1. Video

2. Access to Week 2 presentation

This week’s presentation can be downloaded as a .pdf file here.

3. Task

Please watch the video below:

Ivanic, R, Edwards, R, Barton, D, Mar1n-Jones, M, Fowler, Z, Hughes, B, Mannion, G, Miller, K, Satchwell, C & Smith, J (2009) Improving learning in college: rethinking literacies across the curriculum, Routledge, London.

4. Discussion topic

This week’s discussion topic is:

What are my learners’ literary practices?

If you are unable to join us in a live discussion, you can add your ideas to an online notice board. If you did not receive the joining e-mail, please contact us and we’ll send you the link to the meeting right away.

5. Forum discussion

How productive is the reflective process if we do not at least try to be objective?

(this might well be an oxymoron if we consider objectivity an impossible goal!)

I look forward to meeting everyone in live discussions, and on the forum boards this week.
