Online learning

Welcome to the online learning strand of our Level 5 course. This part of the course is led by Sarah Crowson and she is looking forward to working with you. Our online content aims to:

  • develop confidence in using a range of digital media as part of everyday GCSE English teaching and learning practice;
  • encourage practitioner development by supporting critical thinking through discussion; and
  • support independent learning through developing a range of collaborative approaches.

This online aspect is designed to complement face-to-face sessions, and support reflection on core aspects of the Level 5 course. We hope that participating in the activities will be enjoyable and engaging. Each fortnight we will present a critical topic, core idea or question for you to consider. You will then have the chance to discuss this with peers as part of a semi-formal online session (live or in your own time), facilitated by Sarah.

Online and face-to-face learning will be supported by a bespoke forum. We hope this will become a vibrant space for participants to meet, share ideas, and collaborate. Each of the five (approximately) one-hour online sessions will take the following format:

The online aspect of this programme will be self-assessed against a set of criteria. We will ask you to fill in a short online form before commencing online study, and as you exit the programme.

We really hope you enjoy this aspect of the programme, and gain confidence in collaborative online working, as well as developing your skills as reflective practitioners.

Critical discussion groups

Each ‘online week’ (between your face-to-face sessions) you can join a live critical discussion group. To join live discussions, please choose your preferred time slot for each of the topics below. If you are not able to join in live, you will be able to discuss your ideas via an online ‘stickies board’ (a link to these boards will be posted at the start of the ‘online week’).

You can book onto the critical discussion groups below even it is happening later than your timetabled session. This means, if you missed one, you may be able to join a session at a later date.
